Demand Accountability for the Death of Laquan McDonald

LETTER regarding LAQUAN McDONALD MURDER! If your name isn’t on the list below, add yourself in the comments please!!!
I am writing on behalf of Together We Stand, a national and global group of over 500 dedicated to racial equality and social change. To say we are disgusted with the handling of the fatal shooting of Laquan McDonald would be putting it mildly. It is morally reprehensible and utterly abhorrent that it took 13 months to indict officer Van Dyke for murder. If that weren’t enough, the fact that it took citizens going to court under the freedom of information act to FORCE the release of the tapes is unbelievable. That coupled with the fact that only when the release of the tapes was eminent did State Attorney Anita Alvarez charge Van Dyke, causes us to question her motives, professionalism and ethics along with those of Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy.

We are aware of the recent termination of Officer McCarthy and feel that State Attorney Alvarez and Mayor Rahm Emanuel should step down as well. It is vital that the citizens of Chicago and citizens nationwide be able to trust in our criminal justice system and those charged to protect and serve our communities.

We will continue to follow this case and look forward to seeing drastic changes in policing and policy to ensure this is the very last time such injustices occur.

Racist’s Fear

Justice for Corey Jones

The killing of a musician by a police officer has ignited familiar tensions in Florida, with family members questioning the officer’s actions as police contend the dead man had a handgun at the scene.

As with many other police-involved shootings that have sparked a national discussion about race and law enforcement tactics in the last year and a half, the details surrounding the killing of 31-year-old Corey Jones are murky.

Below is a letter my group Together We Stand is sending in hopes of getting answers. If you would like your name to be added to the letter please leave me a comment below. Thank you!

Mayor Jablin, Vice Mayor Levy and Police Cheif Stepp,

I am writing on behalf of Together We Stand, a group of citizens from across the United States dedicated to seeking civil rights and equality for all.
We are writing to ask that a full independent investigation into the death of Corey Jones be conducted immediately. We believe it is not sufficient that the case be reviewed by the policing agency that is involved in this matter.
We are sure you are aware that the tensions between communities of color, particularly the African American Community, and police has risen to a palpable level. In order to begin to diffuse this situation, complete transparency on the part of the police is essential. We trust that you will do your part.
We certainly hope to see that you take this matter seriously and will take the proper steps to ensure a full and unbiased assessment and investigation occurs. We look forward to hearing from you.
Regards,

Together We Stand,

The FBI’s Record Of Police Killings Does Not Include Tamir Rice Or Eric Garner

An ineffective system has left Tamir Rice and Eric Garner — two high-profile police brutality victims of the previous year — off the federal government’s official record of homicides by officers. In fact, out of 18,000 law enforcement agencies across the United States, 17,776 refused to provide such data

The silence over the Thabo Sefolosha trial is deafening … and mystifying

Our law enforcement system needs Law Enforcement!

#DismantleLawEnforcement
THE GUARDIAN An NBA player whose leg was unjustifiably broken in a struggle with NYPD officers could barely crack the headlines in 2015. But it was far more important than the usual sports trivia On Friday, Atlanta Hawks shooting guard Thabo Sefolosha was found not guiltyof disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and misdemeanor obstruction of a […]

The outrageous and tragic hiring of officer Timothy Loehmann by the Cleveland police

Before Cleveland police department officer Timothy Loehmann tragically shot and killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice, he accumulated a record of emotional instability, disregard for training, and ineptitude for the job so severe that he should have never been hired. As you will see below, his previous supervisors in Independence, Ohio, said as much. As many as […]
